1. About these Terms
These Terms and Conditions (the "Terms") govern your use of the Northern Horizon website (northernhorizon.no) and the booking of any tour or experience offered through it (each a "Tour"). Northern Horizon provides guided northern lights and Arctic nature tours from Tromsø, Norway.
In these Terms, "Northern Horizon", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the Northern Horizon business. "You" refers to the person booking or taking part in a Tour. You can contact us at contact@northernhorizon.no.
By booking a Tour or using the website, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not book or use the site.
2. How booking and payment work
Northern Horizon is the provider of the Tours. To make booking and payment simple and secure, reservations are taken through a checkout provided by our booking partner, Panion (operated by Peeps Travel), which is embedded on our site and hosted at panion.travel.
When you book:
- Northern Horizon designs, operates and is responsible for the Tour itself.
- Panion acts as the booking platform and the merchant of record for the payment. Payment is collected by Panion through its payment processor (Stripe Connect). Northern Horizon does not receive or store your full card details.
- The Tour is managed and operated using the Bokun reservation system, which handles availability, confirmations and each Tour's cancellation policy.
Your use of the Panion checkout is also subject to Panion's own terms and privacy notice. Please read them before you pay: Panion Terms and Panion Privacy.
3. Your booking contract
When you complete checkout, you will receive a booking confirmation by email. A binding contract for the Tour is formed when that confirmation is issued. Please check your confirmation carefully and tell us straight away if any detail is wrong.
All prices are shown in Norwegian kroner (NOK) unless stated otherwise and include any applicable Norwegian VAT (MVA). The price, date, time, meeting point and main details of each Tour are shown before you confirm.
4. Cancellations, changes and refunds
Each Tour has its own cancellation policy, which is shown to you on the booking page and in your confirmation, and is administered through the Bokun reservation system. That policy forms part of your contract and tells you the deadline for a free cancellation — for most of our Tours, you may cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.
To cancel or change a booking, contact us at contact@northernhorizon.no as early as possible, quoting your booking reference. Refunds, where due, are processed back through Panion to the original payment method.
Right of withdrawal: Tours are leisure services provided on a specific date or within a specific period. Under the Norwegian Cancellation Act (angrerettloven § 22 letter m), the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to such services. The cancellation policy shown for each Tour applies instead.
5. Taking part in a Tour
Arctic tours take place outdoors in winter conditions. Please dress in warm layers and follow the gear guidance in your confirmation — we supply thermal suits and other equipment on tours where this is stated. Children are welcome on most Tours from the age indicated on the tour page, accompanied by an adult.
Please arrive at the stated meeting point on time, follow the reasonable instructions of your guide at all times, and tell us in advance of any medical conditions, reduced mobility or other requirements so we can do our best to help. Latecomers may not be able to join, and we cannot offer a refund for arrivals that miss the departure.
Northern lights sightings depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed. Where a specific goodwill policy applies (for example a discount on a repeat tour after a night with no sighting), it is described on the tour page and does not create a right to a refund.
6. Changes or cancellation by us
Occasionally we may need to change or cancel a Tour, for example because of dangerous weather or road conditions, low numbers, guide illness, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control (force majeure). Your safety comes first. If we cancel, we will offer you an alternative date where possible or a full refund of the price paid for the Tour.
7. Our responsibility to you
We provide the Tours with professional care and skill, and our guides are trained in Arctic driving, first aid and emergency preparedness. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by your own acts, including failure to follow safety instructions. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under Norwegian law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
8. Photographs
Professional photographs taken by our photographers during a Tour are delivered to participants as described on the tour page. We sometimes use tour photographs in our own marketing; if you prefer not to appear in marketing material, tell your guide during the Tour or write to us afterwards and we will not use images in which you are identifiable.
9. Intellectual property
All content on this website (text, design, logos, photographs and code) belongs to Northern Horizon or its licensors and may not be copied or reused without our written permission, except where the law allows.
10. Privacy
We handle personal data in line with our Privacy Policy. Personal data you enter into the Panion checkout to book and pay is handled by Panion under its own privacy notice.
11. Complaints and disputes
If something is not right, please contact us first at contact@northernhorizon.no and we will try to put it right. As a consumer, you may also bring a complaint before the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet) or use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the one in force when you booked. The latest version is always published on this page.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by Norwegian law. Disputes will be subject to the courts determined by the applicable rules of jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory right you have as a consumer to bring proceedings in your country of residence.
