SCROLL DOWN

Who We Are

Northern Horizon was founded in 2017 in Tromsø by a small team of guides, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts with one shared goal: to offer others the chance to experience the North the way we see it. Each of us came to this work through a personal connection to the Arctic—drawn by the light, the silence, the landscapes, and the sense of something larger than ourselves. What began as a passion project has since evolved into a professional guiding company, but our commitment remains personal and grounded.

We believe that Northern Norway is one of the most extraordinary places on Earth—not just for the aurora borealis or the dramatic scenery, but for the quiet moments in between: the snow crunching underfoot, the stillness of a fjord, the warmth of a shared campfire. Through our tours, we aim to slow things down, create space for genuine connection, and guide our guests with the same curiosity and respect that first brought us out here. Today, Northern Horizon continues to be run by the same people who started it, combining years of experience with a passion that hasn’t faded.

A Passion for the North

At Northern Horizon, our mission is to create meaningful journeys into Arctic nature—experiences that go beyond sightseeing and become something more personal, more grounded, and more memorable. We focus on quality over quantity, choosing to work with small groups so we can give every guest our full attention and the space to truly connect with the landscape around them.

Each tour is designed with care and purpose, shaped by our deep respect for the natural world and our years of experience in the region. We don’t rush through checklists or chase fleeting moments—we take our time, move with the rhythm of nature, and allow the Arctic to reveal itself in its own way. Whether it’s the quiet anticipation of waiting for the northern lights or the simple beauty of a snow-covered forest, we believe that the best experiences are the ones that unfold slowly and honestly.

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We’re committed to minimizing our impact on the environment and preserving the fragile beauty of the places we visit. As guides, we see ourselves not just as storytellers or photographers, but as stewards of the land—responsible for protecting what makes this region so special.

We approach our work with professionalism and passion. This isn’t just a job for us—it’s a lifestyle built around curiosity, connection, and the desire to share something real. And while we take great care in planning each journey, it’s the people we meet and the moments we share that truly make it worthwhile.

Northern Horizon Timeline

A decade of chasing auroras, guiding guests and raising the bar for Arctic hospitality.

2017
Launch

We started in Tromsø with a simple goal: to share the magic of the North through small, honest, nature-focused tours. What began as a passion quickly became a mission.

2018
Guests

Our first full northern lights season was a success. With more guests and a growing team, we expanded our fleet and guided travellers from over 30 countries.

2021
Sharpening the Experience

This year we focused inward. We upgraded our gear, improved communication, and trained harder—making each tour smoother, safer, and more personal.

2025
Looking ahead

The mission stays the same: protect what we love, guide with care, and keep sharing the Arctic—one quiet, meaningful moment at a time.

Safety & Sustainability

Safety First

Your safety is at the heart of everything we do. From the moment we set off to the moment we return, every part of your experience is planned with care and responsibility. Our guides are experienced professionals—fully trained in Arctic survival, first aid, and emergency preparedness. We follow strict safety protocols for all weather conditions, monitor forecasts closely, and adapt routes and plans as needed to ensure your well-being at all times. Only the most skilled and trusted drivers are behind the wheel, equipped to handle winter roads with confidence and precision. Our vehicles are regularly maintained, equipped with safety gear, and designed for comfort and reliability in Arctic conditions. Whether you’re chasing the northern lights or hiking through deep snow, you’re in good hands—with a team that takes your safety as seriously as your experience.

Responsible by Nature

We believe the Aurora should inspire, not impact. The Arctic is not only our workplace—it’s a living, breathing environment that demands care and consideration. That’s why we follow strict Leave-No-Trace principles on every tour, setting up camps only in approved areas and always leaving the landscape as we found it. We avoid unnecessary waste, use reusable mugs and compostable materials, and source our campfire snacks from local providers whenever possible. Beyond the land itself, we recognize the importance of cultural respect. We actively partner with Sámi-owned businesses and support indigenous traditions in the areas we travel through. Our goal is to share the North in a way that protects what makes it special—for the environment, for local communities, and for future travellers.
